This interesting video takes a quick glance at the history of the Internet, and
also at the important role that DNS continues to play today.
We will be working on our culminating activities all this week (with a break on Friday for some festivities on the shortened day). Please make EXCELLENT use (not even good use) of your time, as there are only a few days left when we get back from Christmas. Blog ALL your steps..see me if you are confused.
The small career part of the culminating is posted here (and the rubric here). These are due the first week back from break (they should take you, at most, 1 period or so). This will make up 10% of your final mark.
I have also brought in the Eggbot if anyone would like to take the time to play around and program it. This was my culminating activity from last semester, and I am currently working (when I get a chance) on a cheaper alternative to a smartboard (using Johnny Lee's ideas).
In a surprise 4-0 shut out, team Qaw'wlj ("destroyer" in Klingon) defeated team Botbusters in an exciting sumo robot match. It was interesting to see two similar designs battle out for supremacy of the Computer Engineering class. Hopefully, tomorrow's bots will be able to complete the colour challenge (team Red and team Green).
It looks like the trip to the AGO is a go (it looked touch and go there for a moment), so I will not be in class today. Consider this a BONUS DAY to complete the testing of your LEGO robots. Competition is tomorrow..no excuses (short of a snow day, nuclear holocaust, or me winning some sort of multi-million dollar lottery).
I look forward to seeing your creations in action.
Remember: EVERYONE is to have blogged about their robot in the Engineering Format discussed in class (pics and diagrams go a long way in helping with the explanations). Rubric is posted a few entries below if you have forgotten about what is expected from this project.
Have fun..and clean up the room before you leave for the day.
I hope all of you are moving forward with your Robotics designs, and that you have fabulous creations to show me when I return on Monday (another meeting today..this time at the Chesley Board Office looking at Blended Learning..is what we are already doing in class...)
For those of you interested in a career in IT/CE, I tripped across a very informative article about present job opportunities in these fields.
Please reread the expectations below, and make use of your TWO culminating activity days this week (next one will be on Friday). The middle of January will sneak up on you quicker than you think.
If you have NOTHING to do on your culminating (which I would have a hard time believing), then work on your Robotics challenges.
I will be back in class tomorrow (I am in Peterborough developing curriculum today).
This will be the on-line binder for TEJ3/4MI
