Sorry, but I will miss class today. I am very ill. Please be prepared to work on your OBP for both Friday and Monday (think of it as OBP bonus days..so don't waste the time)
Very interesting article on IT skills that are in demand. All the stats are based on U.S. figures, but should be very similar to the situation in Canada.
Today I would like you to work on:
The small career exploration part of the culminating mark is posted here (and the rubric here). These are due next Tuesday(they should take you, at most, 1 period or so). This will make up 5% of your final mark.
In preparation for what we will be doing next week, I wouldl like would like everyone in the TEJ3MI class to match up with a partner, and install the Lego Mindstorm software on one of their XP boxes.
This is your last formal day with the arduinos. Please finish each of the tutorials (if you haven't already done so), and have the supply teacher sign off on the ones that you have completed. I will collect tracking sheets when I return.
I would appreciate it if you could take the time and effort to try some of the extensions (one or two would be nice).
The customer computers also need to be finished today, so help e
'nough said (I am away on a field trip..so act professionally, and keep the room clean and tidy). You will soon be running out of time for your OBP..so plan and act accordingly. If you cannot possibly do anything today, please finish up any work that you owe me.
Wow. The school is empty, yet there is a lot of work still to be done. Don't forget that tomorrow is your OBP day, so be prepared to spend your time wisely.
It's simple. Either you are ready to go, or you are not. There has been enough time given (maybe too much?)
TEJ4MI: Arduinos done by the end of Monday's class.
TEJ3MI: Games to be presented tomorrow and Monday. We will get organized today.
EVERYONE: Friday is a Day 2, which is OBP day. Those without detailed project proposals, and plans to move forward, will not be able to participate. The OBP and the process surrounding it counts as 30% of your final mark.
Some really cool ideas for projects on HackADay
TEJ3MI: As we finish up the introduction to networking information and practical application during today's class, you should be shifting into research mode as you and a partner explore the world of open-source/freeware games that we can play on our network. We will discuss evaluation criteria and expectations during today's class.
To get you started:
1) Make sure your computer works on the switch (w/ your cable).
2) Make sure your computer works w/ a partner's (w/ your cross over-cable).
3) Research with your partner a networkable game that's
a) free to download (legally..lol)..because of the restrictions w/ the firewall you may have to download a copy at home
b) works with the hardware in the room
4) Claim your game by writing it on the Smartboard. Once a game is
claimed, it is off limits.
5) Practice setting up/playing/optimizing your game. Write these set-up instructions in a .txt file to be shared with the class, over the network
TEJ4MI: To be on track you should be finished with the Ardunio workbook by the end of next week.
This will be the on-line binder for TEJ3/4MI
