Everyone needs to be responsible and professional during the next two days. I am looking after assistive technology during the OSSLT tomorrow (and as such, you will have a supply), and I am at a very important tech-based meeting on Friday (and, yes, you will have a supply).
The 3MI students will need to wait until Monday to continue with the networking unit. Those who are keen can preview the powerpoint that I posted yesterday, as it will form the core of the learning that we will be doing next week. If you do not have your straight-through and cross over cables finished, please do so today. Similarly, if your test machine cannot dual boot XP and Ubuntu, please make sure that is done as well. 4MI students can continue with the Arduino tutorials that we started yesterday, but you must be prepared to demonstrate each completed tutorial "live"..so you might not want to go much farther than the first assignment (and any modifications/improvements you'd like to make). Everyone should make the effort to hand in their DETAILED Arduino and OBP proposals as well. We are going to be discussing, and starting the OBPs Day 2 next week (and most Day 2s after that). The Ubuntu machines that we are donating need to be finished and "good to go" for Thursday after school, as I am driving them to their next home Friday morning. Please make sure that everything is in working order.

Finally! It has been over a year in the making, but we finally have our hands on some pretty nifty Arduino Kits from Sparkfun.com. These should serve as a fantastic starting point for us to learn the basics of programmable electronics. I am excited to see what you will be capable of creating at the end of this task.
AWE4MI students will start with the Arduino kits today. You will need to download your own copy of this workbook, and this tracking sheet. Since this is my first time using these kits, and programming Arduinos, I look forward to learning along side of you as we work together to "figure" everything out. This is a great opportunity for the Padawans to outshine the Jedi. AWE3MI students we will be working on our Networking unit. You will need to download this worksheet, as we will be moving forward at a pretty quick pace. No worries, you will be able to use the Arduinos in a very short period of time. Besides, your unit ends with a project that involves multi-player gaming, so I don't think you have much to be too disappointed about.... |
