![]() I am very happy by the strong turn out (20 keen players!) for the first meeting of the 2014 Reach for the Top Team. Even though we will only be playing "in house" for the rest of the year, it is a great start to next year's season. We should also be able to play at least one game against some very competitive teachers :) We meet every Thursday at lunch in the library. As long as we keep it clean, we are allowed to eat in the library..so grab your lunch bag and don't be late! With the passage of Bill 115, I have decided that I am unable to continue to perform extracurricular activities, even though I enjoyed them in the past. This is a personal decision that I have made after much introspection. I plan to focus all of my energies on my contractual obligations in the classroom.
If the situation changes, I will make sure that each of you know that the team will be starting up again. We will need at least 3 more Grade 9s or 10s join the Wednesday practices, or unfortunately, I will need to fold the team. Present intermediate members will be encouraged to join the senior team (but the learning curve might be a little steep..so you'll need to "hang in there" and remember that most of the curriculum covered in the questions you won't see until Grade 11 and 12).
Reach for the Top practices will begin Wednesday September 21st at lunch in the library (you can eat your lunch in the library...just be extremely careful about not making a mess). Bring your friends. This is the most fun you'll have this week.
There will be RFTT practices Monday and Tuesday at lunch. We also need to discuss the last in the series of the challenges vs. the staff that will take place next Wednesday. So far, we have raised approximately $130 on ticket sales for the two events.
Congratulations to the staff team (Mr. Riddick, Mrs. McCaffrey, Ms. Saunders, and Mr. Morrissey) as they were victorious over the Senior A team, 400-330. It was a great game, and was very exciting to watch. Thank you to everyone that came out to watch; your support is very much appreciated
Next week, the Intermediate A team will be taking on Ms. MacLaughlin, Ms. Christie, Mr. Roehrig, and Mr. Twaites in a match that should prove to be very exciting as well. Tickets will be available from Reach for the Top members later this week. Today is the first Staff vs Students game. This Battle of the Ages will take place in the library at 11:50am. There are still a few tickets left and they can be purchased from any Reach Team member (only $2!)
The Senior Reach for the Top Team defeated Mount Forest last week and were crowned Regional Champions for School Reach. The team will be travelling to Toronto in May to compete in the Provincial Finals. To help offset the costs associated with our participation in the tournament, we will be holding a series of student vs staff School Reach contests at lunch.
The first contest is on Wednesday, April 6th at lunch in the cafeteria. Tickets are available from Reach members or at lunch from the booth in the front hallway. Come out and support the team! |
Joining RFTTEveryone is welcome to join the school Reach Teams. We meet in the library Thursdays at lunch. |
