iPad Pilot

Because of my leadership in the areas concerning paperless and digital classrooms, I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the first teachers in the Bluewater Board of Education to pilot iPads in the classroom. My focus this year period has been to explore teaching in a way that allows students to learn differently, given the great influx of technology that is available to them.
I have always seen my role as facilitator of student learning. Students in my classroom are taught critical thinking skills, and encouraged to develop life long strategies, as oppossed to just filling their heads with memorized rote knowledge. The successful student of tomorrow is the one that can find information the fastest, evaluate that information, and apply it in the best way possible. The iPads, and similar technologies are only piece in what is becoming a huge paradigm shift in education.
If you are interested in the research behind technologies, such as the iPad, in the classroom I strongly encourage you to take a look at the fascinating articles on Edutopia.
