I have laryngitis, so your patience is appreciated.
We have a small lesson planned today re: the start of the War, and then you are expected to spend the rest of the period working on your presentations.

Yesterday's class went very well, and there was some excellent discussion.
Let's work hard to finish up the exploration of Adolf Hitler today. You will need the handouts from yesterday. A few students still have not selected a WW2 topic. Please make sure I know what you are doing before the end of class today. Topics will be assigned to those who do not sign up (I am here to help you if you need a push in finding a subject that you would like to explore indepth).
Today we will be looking at the concepts of Fascism, and the rise of Adolf Hitler. You will need to have your notebook ready to go at the start of class. I am pushing the song presentations over until Monday. Today we will pick our World War II presentation topics. You are allowed to work with a partner to develop your 5-7 minute presentation. I have attached a list of topics (if more than one group wants to do the same topic, we will settle disputes by rock-paper-scissors (best 2 out of 3)). You will need the rubric, the organizer, and the peer evaluation sheets.
I have also attached a glossary/note organizer that you should be in the front of you notebook to help you keep track of all the important new terms we will be covering as we go through the unit. Today we are going to complete a pre-learning assessment of our knowledge of WWII, and start to discuss some of the factors that led to conflict in 1939. You will need a copy of this map in your notebook.
For the next two days, we are going to watch the movie Cinderella Man. It is based on the true story of professional boxer James J. Braddock. While occurring in the United States, Braddock's story was not unknown to Canadians, and the movies does a creditable job of recreating the conditions that most endured during the Great Depression.
Before we start the movie, please download the response questions, primary source document, and movie analysis sheet. We will be discussing different forms of entertainment during the 1930s and how these pastimes were a reflection of the time period. We will be using the two movies below as conversation starters.
We will be then looking at modern music that we are listening now, and analyzing how it is a reflection of the morals, attitudes and social norms from the present. Please download these 3 handouts (intro, organizer, rubric). Please finish up the 30s scrapbook questions today.
