As we talked about in class, my "trip of a lifetime" was last year when my wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary by travelling to France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Since we are both history majors, it was the perfect trip for us.
I also had the opportunity to not only visit some First World War cemeteries, memorials and battlefields, I was fortunate enough to follow the path of the Canadian Army from the Second World War. One of the most moving visits for me, was the beaches of Dieppe. To stand where so many Canadian boys sacrificed their lives trying to breach the Hitler's Atlantic Wall was very, very moving. Here are a few pics from my trip that should help illustrate some of the concepts that we discussed in class today. The three shots (in order): the coastline of Dieppe, a close up of the pebbled beach, and a house built into a remaining section of the Atlantic Wall.
