Today we are going to look at how to use the studio lights.  We will be working upstairs in small groups.  If you are not in the studio with me, you are to be working on your advertising.

A little more on design

Today we are going to look at the "CRAP" rule (I knew you were going to get at least a small giggle out of that), and how to apply it to digital design.

This assignment will keep you busy for the next few days, and should be a good evaluation of your basic understandings of photography, Photoshop, and design.

Creative Visual Design on Prezi

Here is some inspiration for your layout from Italian designer and art director Federico Maurer  who created a simple and interesting series of works, named “Famous Glasses”.

The Show Must Go On...

This course is very condensed and "content heavy", as we have a lot of skills to  learn in order to stick our promise of completing and delivering a yearbook at  the end of June.  We can not allow the fact that I am away from class in the morning get in our way (I will be back in the afternoon if you have any questions).

AWE3MI
As we end our mini-Photoshop and photo editing unit, you are to read the attached handout on "Photographic Truth in the Digital Era", and complete the 1 page personal response that is indicated at the bottom of the  package.  This will be evaluated.  It is due next Wednesday (no excuses)

The websites on the handout have changed to the following:
Fake or Foto Quiz
Greg's Digital Retouching Portfolio

You do not have to answer all the guided questions, they are only to help focus your thinking in preparation of your answering the personal response question.  You should complete the activities for both websites and reflect on your thoughts (this will make a valuable contribution to your response).

You know that portrait you took yesterday.

Throw it out.

Start again.

Put some thought into it.

Watch this video, and then let's talk about it, and how this concept effects our class moving forward.

Yup, this one is for marks. :)

If you already have the AWE credit (Yearbook) or in the Comm Tech class that borrowed my assignment last year, you are to do the advanced project.  Everyone else you are to complete this assignment.

I would like to have these handed in before next Friday.  This gives you one full week, including a weekend to complete the work.  It will take you a few hours spread out over a few days to finish the job properly.  Do not leave this to the last minute...it will not be possible to meet all the objectives.

Happy Valentines' Day +1

Welcome back from your brief holiday!  We have a lot to accomplish this week, given that we will also miss some of Friday's class because of an assembly.

Today, we will be finishing up the scavenger hunt and sharing our photos with the class (chocolate for the winners!).

But before we get in to all of that, let's take some time to explore Photoshop Elements, and practice our basic photo editing skills using these files (download the .zip file and extract it to your practice directory on the y: drive)

Today's quiz will not take that long, so let's finish the day with a photographic scavenger hunt.

I highly recommend that you sign out a camera (look at the nifty button on the right --------->) and practice your craft over the long weekend.  All cameras need to be back bright and early Tuesday morning.

Somebody remind me to demonstrate how to use your camera's light meter to give you a good "guesstimate" about your exposure... (I forgot to do this yesterday)....

Today we are going to explore the "art" of photography...and take your work from "snapshot to masterpiece".

Don't forget your quiz on exposure tomorrow.  If you need a refresher, or just want an opportunity to read more about the topic, check out this awesome resource.
