AWE3MI: Today we will have a very brief note on typography (you will need to make some equally brief notes in your notebook)

AWE4MI: POINTS! I need 40 ASAP.

Today is a very important class.  We are starting the journey towards learning how to use Adobe InDesign, which is the main tool we use to create the yearbook.  InDesign is complicated and has a steep learning curve.  You will need to follow along closely, ask questions when you don't understand something, and also be prepared to stumble and become frustrated (that's okay..perserverance is the key).

As you work on your Specialization Points, please help the Grade 11s (you remember how hard this was for you?  Well, because of time constraints this year, they have to learn everything you learned in 1/2 the time...)

Yesterday, we learned the basics of  photo correction (the everyday "stuff"). Make sure you show me your sheep-free field before the end of today's period.

Today, we are going to start working on some of the more powerful features of Photoshop Elements

By the end of the period you should be able to:
1) understand what layers are, and how to use them
2) how to cut an object out of one photo and paste it in another
3) how to add small details (like shadows) to increase realism

For this period you will need these two files (PitBull, Hotel).

You will also need to pick out a place that you would like to visit, but have never been (this will need to be at  least a 4mp photo..make sure you use Google Advanced Image Search). You will also need to work with a partner to take a photo of yourself. You will be making a virtual postcard.

This is all leading to tomorrow's class when you will be working on the Rick Mercer Photo Challenge assignment.

Chapman's  Assignment. Please show me how much you have completed and what your strategies and plans are on how to finish everything else before the presentation date on Friday.

I will be spending my entire period tomorrow helping you through any of the "sticky spots" that this review is not helping you to remember ;)

I am really looking forward to your creations.

AWE3MI students: That was quick!  I am sure we'll pick things back up and get all caught up by the end of this period... :)  Make sure you have downloaded the tutorial files from Friday onto your computer (save them in your folder on the Y: drive).

AWE4MI students you have an extension.  I am away at Me2We on Friday (I will be responsible for getting yearbook photos), so your Chapman's assignment is due next Monday.

his course is very condensed and "content heavy", as we have a lot of skills to learn in order to stick our promise of completing and delivering a yearbook at the end of June.

AWE3MI

The Self-Exploration of the Rules of Photography assignment that was discussed today can be downloaded here. Due Date is set for Friday, September 27th, giving students two weekends to complete the expectations. Remember to fill out your self-evaluation before handing the assignment and rubric in.

Then, we need to start learning Adobe Photoshop Elements, and the basic tools  that we will use everyday to colour correct our photos, straighten horizons,  remove red eye, fix complexions (very important in high school!), and crop.

The  files  we will need for this hands-on lecture are located here.

Reminder: Student and Parent Contracts are to be signed and handed back no later than Wednesday the 18th.

Chapmans' Assignment is due Friday.  There will be no extensions.  You need to work hard all period.

Hopefully, we will also be able to establish who is looking after which section of the yearbook this year.
