I think everyone agrees that the flavours produced by the AWE4MI class have been quite delicious. The proposed marketing materials have, for the most part, also been quite good (and hopefully served their purpose to act as review for the dusty skill set from last semester).
We will finish the last three presentations today, and declare a winner.
AWE3MI Today, we are going to start working on some of the more powerful features of Photoshop.
By the end of the period you should be able to:
1) understand what layers are, and how to use them
2) how to cut an object out
of one photo and paste it in another
3) how to add small details (like
shadows) to increase realism
For this period you will need these two files (PitBull, Hotel).
You will also need to pick out a place that you would like to visit, but have never been (this will need to be at
least a 4mp photo..make sure you use Google Advanced Image Search). You will also need to work with a partner to take a photo of yourself. You will be making a virtual postcard.
AWE3MI students will also be working on the Rick Mercer assignment, while AWE4MI students are expected to start on their points. I also need section leads to start working on their mock-ups (ie. folio art, grad photo ideas, mug shots, etc). Since there is a good chance that we will not be having a whole lot of extracurricular events this year, we also need to brainstorm other topics that can encapsulate the "GHSS Experience" for 2012-2013.
Hmm..looks like studies are demonstrating what I have told you from the start...Font choice is important
This course is very condensed and "content heavy", as we have a lot of skills to learn in order to stick our promise of completing and delivering a yearbook at the end of June.
The Self-Exploration of the Rules of Photography assignment that was discussed today can be downloaded here. Due Date is set for Friday, September 28th, giving students two weekends to complete the expectations. Remember to fill out your self-evaluation before handing the assignment and rubric in.
Then, we need to start learning Adobe Photoshop Elements, and the basic tools that we will use everyday to colour correct our photos, straighten horizons, remove red eye, fix complexions (very important in high school!), and crop.
The files we will need for this hands-on lecture are located here.
Reminder: Student and Parent Contracts are to be signed and handed back no later than Wednesday the 19th.
Chapmans' Assignment is due Friday. There will be no extensions. You need to work hard all period.
Hopefully, we will also be able to establish who is looking after which section of the yearbook this year.
Thank you to all of you that helped with Photo Day yesterday. I received nothing but compliments from both the company and from the front office about your professionality.
We are locked into a definite pattern for the rest of the week.
We are going to continue down the road of learning the basics of photography, finishing the Powerpoint from yesterday and moving into a practical application during the Photographic Scavenger Hunt.
You need to work on your Chapman's assignment. Remember all the marketing requirements, and when you have a flavour make sure that you pass your ideas by me first.
Congratulations are in order for everyone in the class who contributed their creative thinking skills to work through the process of establishing this year's theme. "Get a Clue" will make an awesome addition to the collection of 44 books that came before it.
Today we are working on developing the theme of the yearbook. We will work through several brainstorming techniques to hopefully (fingers crossed) come up with an overall focus for the 2012-2013 book.
A new school year and a new start. Welcome to the "Yearbook" class (eventhough we do much, much more than just create the book). This can be a very rewarding class, both personally and socially, but the expectations placed on you are exceptional and demanding.
There is a lot for us to get organized today, as tomorrow we will be starting the rapid development of the skills that you will need to finish the book that was started by your peers last semester.
Please make sure that you returned the signed letter by next Monday. If you have lost the copies given out in class today, you can click the hyperlinks to download the AWE4MI and AWE3MI course profiles.
AWE4MI students are asked to spend the day thinking about the area they would like to specialize in, and to share that decision with me during tomorrow's class.
