Attention to Detail

Today, I would like you take the entire period to work with the pica paper and recreate (using your pencil) the exact blueprint that created the magazine layout that you brought in yesterday.  As you were told during the last period, attention to detail is everything.  Do everything in pencil, measure twice, and pay attention to all the "little things".

Points.  I would like at least 1 (preferably 2) projects completed by next Friday. I will also be working with the editors to start the process of building the ladder for this year's book.

A Designing We Shall Go

AWE3MI
Today we will be looking at the basics of design (after we finish up our discussion from yesterday on Theme), starting with this PowerPoint.  You are responsible for all the material that is presented, and as a reminder, you will be having a terminology test early next week.  You will need to score 80% on the test, or you will need to rewrite it (and rewrite it) until you do achieve mastery.  This is a non-negotiable.

A few of you are not respecting deadlines, and several assignments have come and gone without you submitting them.  Nothing in this class is optional, and all assignments must be completed to the best of your ability.  You should expect nothing less from yourself.

AWE4MI
You are to start working on your points today.  Some of you have not shared what your specialization will be, and now the time for selection has come and gone.  You need to talk to me TODAY about what you will be working towards, and your first project.  It is quite acceptable to manage several projects as once, moving forward in increments, but remember not to overload yourself all at once, as the task will seem overwhelming.

The AWE4MI students are to do their presentations today.  AWE3MI students you are to pretend that you are on the Executive Board of Chapmans', and provide feedback on the flavour, advertising campaign, and branding of the new ice cream.

AWE4MI students treat this as a real business meeting and present your material in a well-rehearsed and professional manner.

Any time that is left over will be spent preparing to start the yearbook next week.

Keep the Tradition Alive

Last year a Grade 11 student's Rick Mercer assignment was chosen best over all by the show, and she was the winner for that week.  This has never happened before (selection for the show warrants an automatic Level 4++).  Several students have made the website, and my expectation is that you will work hard, be creative, and apply your new Photoshop skills for a repeat victory!

AWE4MI
Let's talk yearbook today.  We have plans to make.

Yesterday, we learned the basics of photo correction (the everyday "stuff"). Make sure you show me your sheep-free field before the end of today's period.

Today, we are going to start working on some of the more powerful features of Photoshop.

By the end of the period you should be able to:
1) understand what layers are, and how to use them
2) how to cut an object out of one photo and paste it in another
3) how to add small details (like shadows) to increase realism

For this period you will need these two files (PitBull, Hotel).

You will also need to pick out a place that you would like to visit, but have never been (this will need to be at least a 4mp photo..make sure you use Google Advanced Image Search). You will also need to work with a partner to take a photo of yourself. You will be making a virtual postcard.

This is all leading to tomorrow's class when you will be working on the Rick Mercer Photo Challenge assignment.

Remember you should be working on your Photo Assignment for homework, the due date is VERY near :)

Chapmans Assignment.  Please show me how much you have completed and what your strategies and plans are on how to finish everything else before Friday's presentation date.

Ice Cream and Photo Editing

We were a little pushed today for time, so you will have a few minutes to finish up your photographs before we start the contest and declare a winner.  Remember, try to practice the techniques and rules that we discussed in class.

There should be time for us to start looking at Adobe Photoshop Elements, and how we can use it to make very minor corrections to our photographs.

AWE4MI

MMMM...Ice Cream.  You have a very tight schedule, and I can't remind you enough to make sure that you look at all the expectations for the assignment...push yourself, do your best, and make the best marketing campaign that Chapman's has ever seen.

Busy, busy we remain.

Yesterday's class flew by too quickly.  We'll review for 10 minutes today, and then send you out in to the world with a photography list in hand.  Those judged by their peers to have the best photos will win a prize that they will tell their children's children about.  Guaranteed.

AWE4MI

You have WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much work today.  I would like to talk to each and every one of you about your stream selection, and how you are going to approach the Chapman's assignment.

Oh..and there is that little thing about yearbook leadership positions too.  We should figure that out when the Grade 11s are out taking photos.  Remind me.
