http://www.talenthouse.com/creative is a fantastic site for those who wish to use their design skills to build their portfolio, make contacts in the "real world" and perhaps make a little money a long the way.  For those of you thinking about Post-Secondary opportunities in this career field, it would be a good place to start making your "name".

TGIF: Busy Week

3/30/2012

What a busy week we've had...early dismissal, OSSLT, and now me away (yet again) for a meeting.  You need to ask yourself how much you have accomplished this week.  I will only say it one more time..you are going to get buried if you don't keep focused on the task at hand.

AWE3MI: You need to work on your  yearbook pages, and if that is not possible because of content you are waiting for, you should be working on your interview assignment.  The Lookbooks in the cupboard are a great place to get ideas (so does googling "cool magazine layouts" etc).

AWE4MI: I need at least 80 points from you by the middle of next week (preferably 100).  Yes, you have yearbook pages to work on, but you need to keep pushing forward and using your time wisely.  The room is open before school, at lunch, and after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

TGIM: We need to move forward!

Congratulations to the AWE3MI class.  In a matter of a few weeks  you have all
managed to climb the steep learning  curve that is Adobe InDesign.  You now all
have the basics under your belt, and you are ready to push your learning to the
next level.   Most of you have managed to recreate the cover of a   high-school
appropriate magazine, keeping all design elements the same size,   colour and
shape.  The only object that you changed on the cover is the   picture of the
featured model/subject.  It was  replaced by an equivalent   sized picture of
you.  You have used the swatch book to match colours, and  you have taken a
considerable amount of time boxing off and measuring  all  the design elements.
Please now take the time to "polish" your assignmend and hand it in.  The rubric
for the assignment can be found here.

Today we are going to take a look at interview skills, and the interview assignment.

AWE4MI:
I have seen most of you working very hard on your yearbook pages, but you must also remember that you need to be moving forward with your points as well.  I am going to need at least 80pts worth of projects by next Monday (for most of you that is 2 large and 1 small assignment).

I am away today for day surgery.  I hope you have a fantastic March Break, and
that you return to school well-rested and motivated for the big push to the end
of April.  We still have a lot to accomplish on the yearbook in the next five weeks.

AWE3MI students should be working (and hopefully finishing) their CD and Magazine Cover assignments.  AWE4MI students should be working on points and  yearbook pages.

Stay focused and use this period wisely.

The Week Ahead of Us..

AWE3MI
You have two projects two work on this week (the Magazine Cover, and the CD Cover Redesign (and rubric)).  These are significant assignments, and should be a good test of your InDesign skills.  Accuracy is VERY important ("good enough" is not "good enough").  Those who have not passed the vocabulary test will rewrite until they score 80% (Monday we will write in class, Tuesday on, the test will be written at lunch).

AWE4MI
We are going to spend the entire week working on the yearbook.  There is too much too do, and we are way behind.  I need everybody on board moving at 110%.
