Don't forget that tonight is Parent's Night..please have your parents stop by and say "hi".  I'll be in the Cafetorium.

AWE3MI
Finish up your magazine layouts, and sign up for your yearbook pages (minimum of one DPS or two SPSs).  See me if you have any questions.  Tomorrow we will be discussing the details of two new assignments you will be expected to complete du

Operation Finish the Yearbook starts today....

The magazine cover is now "overdue".  If you are behind, or struggling, you will need to make up time when you can find it (lunch, after school are always viable options).

Today we are going to start discussing your role in completing the 2010-11 Yearbook, and the responsibilities and procedures involved with it's creation. This will be a very important lesson, and as such, it is imperative that you take notes and pay attention.  From this point on, a mistake by you, either through ignorance or misguided information could jeopardize the entire book.

Those students who failed to score 80% on the yearbook terminology test, are required to rewrite the quiz at the beginning of lunch.

IDP4UY
We need to discuss your points today.  Please be prepared to tell me what stage you are at, and what I can do to help you achieve your goals.

I am away from the school today, coaching at the Regional Reach for the Top Playoffs.

AWE3MI
This is your second to last day to work on the magazine cover.  Please make sure that you are using your time wisely.  There will be a new assignment on Monday.

Our First Breakie!

For those who signed up to bring breakfast..thank you!   Having done this sort of activity for hte past 4 years, I find it makes for great team bonding...and more often than not, some delicious treats to start the day off with!

AWE3MI
Keep working on your magazine cover.  Expectations are that this is done and ready to be handed in by the end of Friday's class.  Make sure you double check and recheck all your measurements.

Don't forget that your one and only test for the year, the one based on terminology and vocabulary is set for Friday.  You will need to score at least 12/15 on the quiz, or you will have to rewrite it on Monday @ lunch.  Rewrites will take place until you pass it (and the quiz is never the same twice).

If you lost your copy of the yearbook terminology handout, you can download a fresh copy here.

IDP4UY
Please aim to have at least one yearbook page done by the end of Thursday's class.  The Yearbook editor team meets Friday at lunch, and it would be extremely beneficial if you had your pages ready for proofing.

Welcome Back

Hopefully you enjoyed your extended March Break.  With the snow days, we are VERY far behind, and I suspect all of your skills will be a little rusty.  Time to shake off the holiday and get back to work.  We still have a VERY real deadline staring at us in the face.

AWE3MI
Please work on  your magazine cover.  Hopefully you did all the measuring during the break, otherwise, you are really going to have to "boogie" to get things done.

IDP4UY
I would like to meet with all of you and talk about points (I had none submitted to evaluate..that is not acceptable...), and more importantly (at least for the short term), the yearbook.  We have positions to fill and pages to get done.

Snow Day, Snow Day, yet another, Snow Day

Snow days are nice...too bad they don't also mean that we have an extension on the day that our book is due at the publishers.  A lost day is a day that we still have to make up..and quickly.  Please, please, please work full out on Friday and push yourself to be quick, efficient and precise (without compromising quality).

IDP4UY
I need you to work on yearbook pages and I am also looking for someone to step up and take over as Senior Sales Manager (you can also have a staff of two Grade 11s if you wish)...we need to keep pushing our ad sales.

Until the Break...

Congratulations.  In three days you have all managed to climb the steep learning curve that is Adobe InDesign.  You now all have the basics under your belt, and you are ready to push your learning to the next level.

Using your skills, recreate the cover a high-school appropriate magazine, keeping all design elements the same size, colour and shape.  The only object that should change on the cover is the picture of the featured model/subject.  It should be replaced by an equivalent sized picture of  you (do not photoshop your head onto the original's body).  You will need to use the swatch book to match colours, and you will need to take a considerable amount of time boxing off and measuring all the design elements. The rubric for the assignment can be found here.

InDesign

AWE3MI
Today is a very important class.  We are starting the journey towards learning how to use Adobe InDesign, which is the main tool we use to create the yearbook.  InDesign is complicated and has a steep learning curve.  You will need to follow along closely, ask questions when you don't understand something, and also be prepared to stumble and become frustrated (that's okay..perserverance is the key).

IDP4UY
Please help the Grade 11s (you remember how hard this was for you?  Well, because of time contraints this year, they have to learn everything you learned in 1/2 the time...)

AWE3MI
Using the Pica Paper, carefully reconstruct the magazine layout that you picked yesterday.  Only paste the dominate element on the paper, while drawing and labelling the other elements taht make up the layout.  Remember sizing: maxium width x maximum height.

This is the last day to hand in outstanding assignments.

IDP4UY
What a great day to finish up some points!  I also need someone to step up and organize the lollipop sales..we need to restart this next week.  Volunteers?

Today's class we will continue to look at the elements of design, especially those pieces that make up a printed page.

Remember that the last date for late assignments is tomorrow.

IDP4UY
Students should be working on their yearbook pages (and/or points).
